Three Nelson Bays Harmony singers recently attended a weekend He Tangata workshop in Wellington. He Tangata is the national women’s barbershop singing show chorus. Meeting four times each year at various locations throughout the country, He Tangata membership is open to all Sweet Adelines New Zealand members including ‘Chapter at Large’ members of who are not part of a local chorus.
In May, June Savage and Hilary Clifton travelled to Newcastle, Australia to sing with He Tangata at the Australian National Sweet Adeline convention. The audience was delighted with the performance, which included Pokarekare Ana, Poi E and a tear jerking rendition of Hine e Hine.
Since May, June Eyles has joined the Nelson contingent of He Tangata and is looking forward to further workshops in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch before the next major performance at the 2012 New Zealand Sweet Adelines convention in Christchurch in May.
Future He Tangata plans include travelling to the World Choir Games in Cincinnati in July 2012, the international Sweet Adelines Convention in Hawaii in November 2013 and a proposal to travel to Sweden in 2014.
