“I was expecting to listen to the singing – not join in.
Still, the Nelson Bays Harmony Chorus is looking for new blood, so I suppose it was no surprise to arrive at Club Waimea and seconds later find myself standing in the midst of 40 ladies, gripping a sheet of music and wishing my singing voice was suited for more than just the car.
“I haven’t done this since primary school,” I apologise to those either side of me before we begin.
They just smile, and one pats me on the arm. Then we open our mouths to sing”.
