Saturday 2nd September 2017, 1-5.00pm, Garin College
This workshop offers an opportunity for women singers in the Nelson area to learn from and sing with one of New Zealand’s top a cappella groups, ZEAL Quartet.
Nelson Bays Harmony are bringing ZEAL to Nelson for this one-off workshop after a very successful road show in Nelson last year. In 2016 ZEAL were NZ’s top women’s under 25 barbershop quartet.
Alongside members of Zeal and Nelson Bays Harmony singers you will take part in vocal warm ups and a vocal skills session, sing unaccompanied four-part harmony in the barbershop style and learn an a cappella arrangement of the Exponents’ song “Why Does Love Do this to Me?”.
To experience the buzz of small group harmony singing you will have the opportunity to sing with members of Zeal, either as part of an octet including Zeal, or tag out a member of Zeal and sing in the quartet! There will also be options to try out different combinations of singers during the workshop.
This is a great chance to find like-minded women to sing with, in a small group (quartet, sextet, octet) or potentially as part of Nelson Bays Harmony. If you already have a small group, bring them all along and participate in this learning and performance opportunity together.
At the end of the workshop, you can choose to participate in an “open mic” session using a workshop song and a random, or your chosen, group of singers. You are also invited to get a group together and come to the workshop with a song prepared for this moment!
ZEAL will award spot prizes to individuals and groups, under various categories. e.g. most entertaining group, most promising star, best harmonies.
