A stroll through native bush brings you to the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary’s Beech Glade, a clearing floored in timber and edged with matching seating. As part of their summer season of music, Nelson Bays Harmony performed a 30-minute concert with a variety of our repertoire songs.
This was our new co-director Alex’s first performance as director as she led us in our contest uptune, a change of role for her as in the past she has performed as part of a competing quartet and of a medal-winning chorus.
The programme was opened and closed with songs in Te Reo: Haere Mai and Te Aroha. In between was a variety of music from different eras, reflecting the chorus’ wide repertoire, all in the barbershop style.
Toward the end of the concert a fellow Sweet Adeline from Whangarei, was invited to come from the audience to join in a couple of songs which are known by all New Zealand Sweet Adelines.
Oh, the joy of belonging!
